Updating hard drive ps3
Just check the dimensions – not more than 9.5mm tall. PS3 consoles don't have interface software optimised for SSDs. You should note that any trophies you've earned will be wiped in the process of formatting.
To ensure you hold on to them, you need to remember to use the Only HDDs being used externally (via USB) need to be formatted in FAT32.
Also, if you strip the screws, and cannot get them out with pliers or any alternative method (dremel), your PS3 will need to be sent in for repair.
It is considered an out-of-warranty repair (user-caused damage).
Be careful with some of the larger drives being released ( 320GB).
Some brands are being a bit dodgy and not conforming to the 2.5 inch spec – they will be too thick to fit within your PS3. Unfortunately there wouldn't be a significant speed increase from using SSDs.
Don’t let the idea of cracking open your PS4 deter you from boosting your storage.
If you have a PS3 Slim, please also refer to the added instructions at the end.
You will need: WARNING – The easiest way to stuff up this upgrade is to round off or strip the screws that are holding the HDD in place.
Make sure you have the correct size screwdriver, and use plenty of pressure.
Sony Australia have confirmed that (unlike SCEA) they cannot and will not send out spare screws or HDD caddies. You do not need to pre-format a HDD you plan to install internally to the PS3.
